Workshop 2013

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to let you know that I will be teaching a workshop in May 2013!  It will be at the Appalachian Center for Craft and below is a link to their site:

http://www.tntech.edu/craftcenter/workshops/

You can sign up for the workshop or get any questions answered simply by calling (615)-597-6801.  They are open Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30.

This will be a really fun and interesting opportunity to work with paper clay if you never have before!  Paper clay is simply clay with paper pulp added to give some extra strength and workability to the material.  It is a versatile and fun material to work with and we will explore numerous possibilities working with torn slabs.  This is the method I use to build my torso sculptures, but I am hoping for each individual to find their own form and inspirations.
When I began building the torso sculptures it forced me to think of why buildings and structures were made in certain ways and shapes, much like an architect.  I had several of the forms sink and fail so I had to really think of the way I was constructing the piece.  We will also be examining this during the workshop and talking about why structures fail or succeed.
I hope you will join me in this workshop and look forward to sharing this opportunity with you.
Thanks
-Meredith
